Dr. Tom Karkanis

General Dentist

Dr. Tom Karkanis’ passion for bringing dentistry to his patients is fuelled by his combination of dental experience (he’s a graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s Dental School), strong scientific background (he also has a PhD in Cellular Physiology), and facility with computer technology.

Dr. Karkanis provides all aspects of cosmetic, laser, and advanced restorative dentistry in his practice. His patients benefit from the many solutions he offers, including Cerec 1-visit crowns, Invisalign® clear braces, and oral sedation.

Outside of his practice, Tom is an avid fan of music, Tom received his Performer’s Diploma in piano from London’s Trinity College in 1991, and in his free time also enjoys competitive gaming, skiing and squash.

Dr. Jason Goldthorpe

General Dentist

Dr. Jason Goldthorpe is a compassionate and experienced general dentist with a strong focus on restorative and implant dentistry. Originally from Bangor, Northern Ireland, he earned his dental degree from Queen’s University Belfast, graduating in 2008 with Distinctions in Restorative Dentistry.

After several years practicing in the UK, Dr. Goldthorpe relocated to Vancouver in 2013, where he completed his NDEB certification and has since built a reputation for providing thoughtful, high-quality care in a comfortable and supportive environment.

Dr. Goldthorpe has developed a particular interest in dental implants and comprehensive treatment planning. He has completed advanced training in implant dentistry, including Hiossen’s Advanced Implant Course and DIO’s Comprehensive Live Surgery Course. Through this training, he is able to offer both implant placement and restoration, helping patients replace missing teeth with long-lasting, natural-looking solutions.

He takes a comprehensive approach to care, ensuring that each treatment plan is tailored to the individual needs, goals, and long-term oral health of his patients. Whether restoring function, managing more complex cases, or enhancing aesthetics through veneers, crowns, bonding, Invisalign, or implants, his goal is always to deliver predictable, high-quality outcomes.

Known for his calm and approachable manner, Dr. Goldthorpe prioritizes patient comfort and enjoys building lasting relationships with his patients.

Outside the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his family and making the most of the West Coast lifestyle, including surfing, snowboarding, and playing soccer.

Dr. Joel Epstein

Certified Specialist in Oral Medicine Dr. Epstein is a graduate of the College of Dentistry, University of Saskatchewan and received a certificate in Oral Medicine and Master of Science Degree in Dentistry from the University of Washington in Seattle. He is a Fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons of Canada in Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine and was President of the Board of Oral Medicine. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences, and Director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Oral Cancer Biology, Prevention and Treatment at the Chicago Cancer Center, College of Medicine, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Surgery of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to relocating to Chicago, he was Professor of Oral Medicine and Director of the Graduate Program in Oral Medicine, and the DECOD (Dental Care for the Disabled) Program, at the University of Washington, Seattle WA. He was on the medical/dental staff of the British Columbia Cancer Agency for 20 years; and Head of the Department of Dentistry at Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, as well as on staff at other teaching hospitals in Vancouver, and a Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia. He is now Director of Oral Medicine, Division of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery City of Hope, Duarte, CA and medical-dental staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He conducts a private referral practice in Oral Medicine and consultation practice in Vancouver BC. Dr. Epstein has published in oncology, facial pain and general areas of Oral Medicine, with more than six hundred contributions to the literature.

Dr. Kathy Lin

General Dentist

Dr. Kathy Lin is a dedicated and detail-oriented dentist committed to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care. She earned her Bachelor of Science from McGill University in 2020, followed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Toronto in 2024. At Atlantis Dental Cambie, Dr. Kathy strives to create a welcoming and comfortable environment, ensuring every patient feels informed, respected, and cared for throughout their dental journey.

Dr. Kathy is a certified Invisalign provider and has completed multiple continuing education courses focused on Invisalign treatment and root canal therapy. She is an active member of professional study groups, including the BC Dental Study Club and Vancity Dental Club, where she collaborates with peers and stays current with advancements in dentistry. Committed to ongoing learning, Dr. Kathy is currently enrolled in a comprehensive year-long dental implant program focusing on implant planning, surgical placement, and restoration.

Dr. Kathy enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with a particular passion for esthetic procedures such as composite bonding and veneers, where she can enhance both function and appearance to help patients feel more confident in their smiles.

Outside the office, Dr. Lin stays active with snowboarding, running, and has recently taken up tennis and Pilates. She loves cooking and experimenting with new recipes. Dr. Lin also enjoys spending time with her cat, Custard, and exploring local pet stores for new treats and toys.

Dr. Tony Gill

General Dentist Dr. Gill has done much to assist in educating the public about dentistry, from being a featured guest on numerous radio and television talk shows to creating and hosting The Dental Show, a radio call-in program in Vancouver. He has been and continues to be an adviser, clinical tester and consultant for selected dental laboratories and dental materials companies. He is a technical adviser for dental office software. Dr. Gill has been performing difficult cosmetic and surgical cases since 1996, combining his expertise in orthodontics, restorative & cosmetic dentistry and implantology to create natural smiles. Dr. Gill has worked with 11 different Vancouver and Lower Mainland dental offices last year, performing extractions as well as placing implants, bone grafting and assisting dentists in learning about new implant and restoration techniques. Dr. Gill has been working with implants since 1993 and has taken many lectures and hands-on courses on implants, surgery and bone grafting, travelling to the US and to Germany to study with Dr. Paul Weigl at the University of Frankfurt School of Dentistry.
